Grounds
Throughout the year, The Grounds Committee organizes volunteers to maintain and beautify the outside grounds of the school through scheduled “Grounds Clean-up” days (weekends) and “Parents’ Morning Out” days (weekdays). This is a great volunteer opportunity for those who enjoy the outdoors and the entire family can participate.
The primary goal for our school grounds is that they are “Neat, Clean, and Safe” for our children. The Grounds Committee accomplishes this by organizing parent volunteers and students (with teacher’s permission).
On a typical Clean Up Day or Parent’s Morning Out, we will:
- Weed
- Prune shrubs and trees and other plants as needed
- Apply mulch using wood chips, mulch or pine straw
- Remove trash and debris
- Plant flowers, shrubs and trees as needed
- Water any newly installed plants
For larger projects, we will recruit AES Partners, the DooDad’s Club, Beta Club, and Girl and Boy Scouts.
2010 Making the Shade Grant!
Congratulations AES!! Our school has been selected to receive full funding in the amount for $3,000 from the 2010 Making the Shade Grant (GA Forestry Commission). The grant specifically requested funding for shade trees to be planted in our playground areas, mainly the Kindergarten and 1st Grade playgrounds. In order to formalize the grant partnership, Kim MacKenzie, AES Grounds Chairperson, will meet with a GA Forestry Commission representative to review and sign the grant agreement. This grant money must be matched with a combination of PTA funds and volunteer work hours in order to qualify. In total, this will be a $6,000 shade tree planting project (including volunteer hours and donated landscaping materials). This grant money comes at an excellent time to beautify our school grounds after construction. Congratulations Kim and thank you for taking the initiative and winning this grant for AES!
We are actively recruiting volunteers! If you are interested, contact Kim MacKenzie OR submit the volunteer form below:
