You Can Still Register to be a Watch Dog!

Alpharetta Elementary is proud to be starting a new program this year called Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students).  Right now 34 schools in Georgia have this program, but AES is the first Fulton County School to be implementing it!  Watch D.O.G.S. is an initiative that is party of the National Center for Fathering.  It’s a way for fathers and father-figures to get more involved in their children’s school.

We had a very successful Pizza Night Kick-Off event on Wednesday, September 14th .  Over 100 fathers and father-figures came to learn more about the Watch D.O.G.S. program and sign up to become a Watch Dog.  Our goal was to have one father per week the entire school year.  We ended up filling up every day in October and only a few days are left in November.  There are people signed up for every month through May!

If you missed the initial meeting but still want to participate you can!  All you need to do is fill out the registration form and the T-shirt order form (both below) and send it back to the school.  You will also need to contact the AES “Top Dog”, John Foster, at jhf725@yahoo.com to sign up for a date to come in.  Additionally, you will need to fill out the Fulton County Volunteer form which is required of all volunteers who come in contact with any student in the Fulton County system.  That form can be located on the AES homepage.  Official Watch Dogs apparel (T-shirts, sweatshirts, polos, etc.) is required of every Watch Dog for security reasons.  Wearing the shirt signifies to staff, students and parents that the person is someone with authority that day and allowed by the school to be there.  Imagine a random person taking your child out of the car at carpool in the morning…if he is wearing his Watch D.O.G.S. T-shirt then you know he’s supposed to be there!  If a Watch Dog forgets his shirt on the day of his duty, he will be required to purchase another one from the front office…so don’t forget your shirt!!
